A factory made computer is good, but it is mass produced like the cheese burger for those who just want to eat it for the time being when they are hungry and forget about it.

Firstly, the main hardware inside it called the Main board, on which the Processor sits, is mass produced by a third party company who may be manufacturing Main Boards for other Computer Manufacturer’s as well. So generally, the quality of the Main Boards inside these factory made PCs is generic.

Secondly, some Factory made Computers do not have the facility to upgrade the Processor. Say two yrs down by the lane, there is a new application that you need to use, and this application will need more procession power than what your Computer has. What do you do? You can’t just but a newer faster processor and stick it in.

Thirdly and most importantly most factory made Computers have proprietary hardware designs. Which means you cannot replace parts in them or upgrade them with what is a industry standard. Most factory made computers don’t follow industry standards at all. Yes, that is an irony. And if you need a proof, I can prove it to you. For example, say you had an old HP or Compaq, the one that came out with Win 98 and Win Me on them. If the power supply was to die in them, you will have to order the power supply from HP. You could not replace it with an industry standard power supply available in any computer store for $30. Now you have to pay HP $80 plus shipping and then a technician some more money to get it installed. Or you get him to replace the entire Computer Case for you. Lot of pain!!!

Now the plus point of Factory made Computers - they are cheap. Coz they are mass produced like in a farm, they are CHEAP. Cheap as the mixer grinder of your kitchen. But now you know cheap always is not good. Especially when you want quality and you want your Computer to do a lot more for you.

Having a Custom Built Computer is like building a car from scratch. It involves knowledge, passion, science and art. It’s like a personality thing. A Computer can be a best friend, it can be your knowledge ware house and at the same time your window to the outside world. So it can be made to depict your personality. If you know what I mean.
It is most advised to have a Custom Built Computer for specific needs. When your computer is going to be doing a specific task other than basic computing, then it is best to have it custom built. Coz then the technician can listen to your needs and choose the best hardware that will give the highest resources to whatever you are doing.
